ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Jin Ju Song-Begin is a choreographer, dancer and dance teacher from Seoul, Korea, whose work has been presented internationally in Korea, Japan, Singapore and the U.S. Since moving to New York in 2010, her work has been shown in many venues in NYC. In 2012, Jin Ju founded her dance company, Da-On Dance. She has danced for Tere O’Connor, Keith Thomson and Emily Berry. Currently she dances in NYC with Douglas Dunn + Dancers, Sean Curran Company, Cornfield Dance, Daniel Roberts and Netta Yerushalmy. Jin Ju has been chosen to participate in the 2022 Rauschenberg Residency.

Wendell Gray II is a dance artist and choreographer currently based in Brooklyn, NY. He has worked with choreographers such as Tere O’Connor, Joanna Kotze, Pavel Zustiak, Maria Bauman-Morales, Jonah Bokaer, Jordan Demetrius Lloyd, Jumatatu Poe + Jermone “Donte” Beacham, I-Ling Liu, Helen Simoneau, Christal Brown, Esther Baker- Tarpaga, J Bouey, and Janeill Cooper. He has shown his own work at Gibney Dance, University of the Arts, Movement Research at Judson Church, Center for Performance Research, Chez Bushwick, La Mama Galleria, Capezio ACE Awards, and Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance. He has also set work on Michiyaya Dance, Pennsylvania Ballet II + Philadanco II as well as Periapsis Music and Dance. Wendell is a BFA graduate of the University of the Arts (15’) under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield and was raised in Atlanta, GA.

Kerime Konur is a performing artist, creative director, collaborator, freelance photographer of dance + dance film maker. She is a serendipitous artist with vigor, an intentional mover, and a creative that strives to embody human experiences in her work and motion. Her movement has impetus, elegance, empowerment, and force that is demonstrated through optimistic, primitive, physical and diverse storytelling, all of which she utilizes in her artistic approach as a creative collaborator, dance documenter and her ever growing role as director of photography. She has performed the works of Sidra Bell, Cindy Salgado, Bryan Arias, Charissa Barton, Maleek Washington, Jesse Zaritt, Kevan Allen, Jinah Parker, and Cara Diaz, to name a few, and has performed for GMA: Live, NYFW, Nike, Revlon, BOSE, and Amazon Prime. She has had the privilege to creative direct and film + photograph for artists such as Sidra Bell Dance New York, Loni Landon Dance Projects, The Yale Club NYC, and Cesar Brodermann Photography, and is currently a dancer, producer, director and collaborator for Kayla Farrish/Descent Structures Arts.

PROGRAM BACKGROUND

Judson Arts Wednesdays (JAW) is the completely free, completely uncensored creative arm of Judson Memorial Church, a sacred and profane place that has nurtured artists and their work for decades.

Started in the fall of 2009, just after several U.S. banks were bailed out by our Federal Government, JAW was designed to serve those in need of a human bailout, whether that be in the form of free food, free art, or just free company in a free space.
